Applegreen is a major petrol forecourt retailer in the Republic of Ireland with a significant and growing presence in the United Kingdom. From an operational base of 64 sites at the end of 2009, the Group has grown to 152 sites as at 31 December 2014, across the Republic of Ireland (96 sites), United Kingdom (54 sites) and in Long Island, United States (2 sites). Applegreen is the number one motorway service area operator by number of sites in the Republic of Ireland. Applegreen’s growth strategy is focused on acquiring and developing new sites in the markets in which it operates and upgrading and rebranding its existing sites. The Directors believe that economic growth in the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom and structural changes in the petrol station markets, where oil majors are continuing to retreat from front line fuel retailing and moving towards a business model supplying independent operators, offer good growth opportunities to the Group. The Group has recently established a small presence in Long Island, United States to provide it with a potential platform for expansion in the medium term in the north east of the United States.

Challenges


Due to time pressures related to steep development and growth curve in
Applegreen, there was a requirement for online Company Induction, Food Safety
and General Health & Safety modules with knowledge validation, reporting and
notification of non-compliance.

Solution


Optimum Results provided an online learning management system along with
bespoke elearning modules in Applegreen corporate badging and specific
content including all of the Applegreen Business Health & Safety / employee
induction Manuals.


Outcome

Applegreen now deliver all their Health & Safety Training, Company Induction and Food Hygiene training online services provided by Optimum Results for up to 3000 employees. They also provide the results of their Mystery Shopping programme (provided by Optimum Results sister company Customer Perceptions) online for all employees, using the learning system also as a notification system to all employees.
