What is eLearning?

eLearning is the conducting of training or learning through online media. Online learning modules are accessed through a Learning Management System (LMS) SeamsCloud.com on a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

How long are the courses?

Most courses are about 1 hour long. Generally speaking any course where the material takes longer than one hour to cover would be broken down into 1 hour modules. In many cases we have versions of courses available where the course content is broken down into “byte-size” chunks . For example the comprehensive Mastering Excel 2013 is made up of 68 modules ranging from 5 mins to 10 mins each.

What about other languages?

If it can be translated, we can deliver it in any elearning module!

What kind of courses do you provide?

We provide courses in several categories : health and safety, workplace compliance, business skills and IT skills. Even if you don’t see the course listed that you are looking for we are able to source anything you may need from our affiliates and partners.

Are your courses accredited?

As our elearning modules adhere to company values they are normally accredited by your company. A range of accredited courses for company compliance are also available in Health & Safety and Food Safety.

How long does it take to create a bespoke course?

This really depends on the content and the duration, as well as the production level. As a rule of thumb it takes approximately 20 hours work to deliver 1 hour of actual learning content. Obviously courses that require video production or animation can take longer. If you have a specific requirement contact us any time for more info.

What is an LMS?

An LMS(Learning Management system) is an online system for managing and planning all your learner's needs. Here's some things that an LMS can do:

  • Publish courses online
  • Enrol staff in training courses automatically
  • Notify staff when training is due and send them a link to the course
  • Automatically capture and store the learners' results
  • Provide a reporting dashboard where you can check the results and progress of learners
A lot of admin work is automatically handled by our LMS, saving your time to focus on important things like developing learning plans and researching training best practices.
OK that's great, but I just want to find courses - click here to access our course catalog and be up and running in minutes.

We have our own LMS can we still buy courses from you?

Yes, our courses are Scorm and Tincan compliant. Our courses will run on any compliant LMS and likewise other vendors' courses will run on our LMS.

What if I don’t have an LMS?

To get the most out of eLearning an LMS is required. Without an LMS there is no way of automatically capturing and storing results and recording the validation of learning. See SeamsCloud.com to find out about getting an LMS.

What are the benefits of elearning?

  • Accessibility - Delivering training anytime, anywhere on any device, any language, any subject.
  • Reduces Training Costs by up to 70%
  • Online “Audit Ready” Reporting and compliance records – No more folders and spreadsheets!
  • Time efficient Training scheduling & participation
  • No Start up or Software Costs.

What is blended learning?

Blended Learning is the combination of classroom or face-to-face training with online learning where the learner has some element of input into where the learning should take place.

What is SCORM?

Scorm is an established eLearning standard for online training content and online training systems. Elearning content is in a standardised format so that it will be compatible with any Learning Management System(LMS), and that any compliant LMS can host any eLearning content once it is built to the SCORM standard.

Scorm has been succeeded by the latest Tincan standard but is still relevant and widely used. Most LMS implementations support SCORM.

Communication between the eLearning content and the Learning Management System is in the form of SCORM standardised messages. This allows the LMS to automatically, capture and store the learner's progress and results.

What is Tincan?

Tincan (sometimes called Experience API) is the latest eLearning standard for online training content and online training systems. Elearning content is in a standardised format so that it will be compatible with any Learning Management System(LMS). Any up to date Learning Management System should support Tincan. “The Tin Can API makes it possible to collect data about the wide range of experiences a person has (online and offline). This API captures data in a consistent format about a person or group’s activities from many technologies. Very different systems are able to securely communicate by capturing and sharing this stream of activities using Tin Can’s simple vocabulary.”

What is an API?

An application-programming interface (API) is a set of programming instructions and standards for accessing a Web-based software application or Web tool. A software company releases its API to the public so that other software developers can design products that are powered by its service.

For example, Amazon released its API so that Web site developers could more easily access Amazon's product information. Using the Amazon API, a third party Web site can post direct links to Amazon products with updated prices and an option to "buy now." The SeamsCloud API allows other system to interact with SeamsCloud and access all the advantages of a Learning Management System. For example an HR or payroll system could connect with our eLearning system and integrate all the training directly into the HR system itself.

What's an eLearning module?

An eLearning module is essentially an online training course. The contents of a training course are packaged into a module that can be run in a web browser on any device any time. Here's some things that an eLearning module can do:
• Present the course content to the learners.
• Test and validate learning by providing an assessment/test at the end of the module.
• Send the results back to our learning platform (LMS) for statistics and reporting.
• Can contain text, images, video and interactivity.
• Complies with industry standards so that it is portable and can be moved from one LMS to another.
