What Does A Train The Trainer Course Cover? A Practical Two-Day Programme in Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland
A Train the Trainer course helps people plan, design, deliver and evaluate effective workplace training. It is suitable for internal trainers, managers, subject matter experts and staff involved in onboarding or upskilling colleagues.
Optimum Results’ two-day, in-person programme in Dundalk focuses on the complete workplace training cycle – from identifying a genuine training need to evaluating whether learning has been understood and applied.
In short, the programme covers training needs analysis, adult learning, session design, confident delivery, learner engagement, feedback and evaluation.
What happens on Day One?
Day One focuses on analysing and designing training.
Participants explore the role of the workplace trainer, adult learning principles, learner motivation and barriers to participation. They also learn how to distinguish a genuine training need from other workplace issues, identify performance or competency gaps, and prioritise the evidence.
The programme then moves into practical session design. Participants learn how to write measurable learning outcomes, structure training content, select appropriate methods, plan timing and resources, and create clear, accessible materials using relevant workplace examples.
Practical exercises include completing a Training Needs Analysis and creating a training session plan for a real workplace topic.
What happens on Day Two?
Day Two focuses on delivering and evaluating training.
Participants develop their trainer presence, communication, questioning techniques and ability to check understanding. They also learn how to facilitate discussion, encourage participation, manage different group dynamics, handle questions and objections, and keep training focused and on time.
Each participant delivers a short section of their planned training session. They receive structured feedback on clarity, structure, communication, learner engagement, checking of learning and time management.
The course also covers evaluation, training records, confidentiality, data protection, follow-up, refresher training and personal trainer development.
Is there a certificate?
Participants who complete and submit the required workplace-related exercises will receive a Validation of Learning certificate. Their evidence is brought together as a practical portfolio demonstrating the knowledge and skills required to plan and deliver workplace training.
